Internal tools

Internal tools that remove the jobs nobody should be doing by hand

ShiftedLabs builds internal tools — the admin panels, dashboards, approval flows and data-entry replacements that remove a recurring manual job. They are usually the smallest and fastest-paying software a business can commission, because the cost is easy to calculate: the hours someone currently spends, every week, forever.

Who it's for

Teams where a specific recurring task eats hours: checking records by hand, copying between systems, assembling the same report every Monday, or chasing approvals by email.

Signs your current tools are failing

  • Somebody’s job description quietly includes “copy this into that”.
  • A weekly report takes half a day to assemble and is out of date by Tuesday.
  • Approvals happen in an email thread nobody can find later.
  • You have a spreadsheet with colour-coded rows that means something only to its author.
  • Work stops when one person is on holiday.

What we build

  • Admin panels that let non-technical staff do what currently needs a developer or a CSV.
  • Dashboards built on your live data, not a monthly export.
  • Approval and review flows with a visible audit trail.
  • Bulk operations: upload one file, update everything, validate before anything is written.
  • Internal search across data that is currently spread over several systems.

What a sensible first version looks like

Pick the single most annoying recurring task. Build the tool that removes it. Measure the hours it gives back before deciding what is next.

Start with the smallest thing worth proving.

When not to build this

If the task happens twice a year, automating it will cost more than doing it. And if the underlying process is broken, a tool will make you do the wrong thing faster — fix the process first.

Typical integrations and data

  • Your existing database
  • Spreadsheets and CSV imports
  • Email
  • Accounting systems

What happens after launch

Internal tools accumulate requests once people start using them. We work in short cycles after launch, adding what is genuinely needed rather than everything requested at once.

Ownership: you own the code, the data and the accounts. We can host and maintain it, but it is yours.
